Technology for student learning

It has to be taken into consideration that what technology could be the most useful and appropriate for student learning and i finally came up with Web 2.0 that could enhance student learning.

Web 2.0 is basically what we use in present, such as web applications, information sharing applications etc on the World Wide Web (WWW). Examples include web applications, social networking sites, wikis, blogs and video sharing sites and many more.

In regards to student learning, much of it can be done using Web 2.0. There are most likely unlimited amount of any kind of information a sutdent might need on the web. Comparing to having to physically look for information in library or in bookstores, it can also save a huge load of time searching for information.

In addition, if text formed information on the web seems complicated and if you need anything visual material to help you understand, there are also variety of video sharing sites that can be accessed with only a click.

Lastly students may not even need to look for information. RSS aggregator/reader, for example, google reader, you can receive whole different kinds of information you need or are interested in in real time. All you have to do is just to click on subscribe button that looks like this! ---->

Let me include a photo of a design web site, which i subsribed, that is about getting rid of messy payments when people need to dutch. I am also proud of this concept because designers of this are from my country, five koreans! yay!

If you guys are interested in fresh concept of designs, that website can be accessed by clicking here!

I have above mentioned about how Web 2.0 can be such a great tool for student learning. As i believe this is the greatest technology developed ever!

ICT Learning Design

According to Kearsley and Shneiderman (1998) an ICT (Information Communication Technology) reflects a good image of real world where authentic problem scenario is complicated. Thus we need to come up with solutions and to apply on real world. Below is an ICT learning design model developed by Prof. Ron Oliver, a researcher in ICT learning. This is still being widely used for higher education.

1. Learning Tasks

For rthe first stage, beginning learners need to be able to cleary understand the key concepts of tasks in order to complete a job. This plays a crucial role in any beginning of solving systematic problems.

2. Learning Resources

Second one is learning resouces. It is about learners being clearly informed about tasks. Learners will get to know as much as information as they need to achieve tasks.

3. Learning Supports

Final step to be taken is learning supports. This is to support learners to guide and complete tasks successfully.

Interactive WhiteBoards

To start off, i was like wow!! It was not long ago when i found out that there was something very eye-catching development that had already been widely used and of course as well as nowadays.

It is what they call "Interactive WhiteBoard". I will link a video which i watched and couldn't stop surprising.

One more thing i was so amazed about was that this method of teaching helps students to inspire much more than old traditional using just whiteboard. It involves writing on a monitor and monitor exactly follows what is drawn on the monitor. Students get so excited using interactive whiteboards which actually assist in studying.

Voki Avatar

Get a Voki now!

I have realised that i could see this avatar at the top of each module. I felt so interesting to find out what this is about and was also amazed how this character could speak if i click on play button. So i was thinking what if i make a good one for myself?!

Internet Safety

This area of topic has been arising since last a couple of decades to keep internet safe. There are three topics regarding this.

1. Child safety

According to rapidly growing usage of internet, children are exposed to materials such as pornography, offensive, sexually explicit, violent etc.

2. Physical danger

It is associated with meeting someone who met online in real and place yourself in a danger as it could be someone dangerous.
3. Harassment and bullying
Cyber bullying is also a big issue in internet society that includes sending violent messages through internet and spreading rumours online.

Active Learning

Active Learning involes learning based on learning experiences which is done individually or in groups.

-Dales Cone

This diagram shows effectiveness of learning.
The leasteffective method of learning is placed at the top;verbal symbols, which is listening to spoken words.
However, the most effective method is at the bottom of the cone which is direct, purposeful experiences.

-Learning Pyramid

Learning pyramid shows percentages on what is more effective in learning.
People learn from lectures scoring only% which is the least.
But at the bottom of the pyramid which scores the highest is to teach others and immediate use of them. It is believed to be the strongest method of learning here.

Learning Style

This type of web based questionnaire was developed by Barbara A. Solomon from North California and also supported by Richard Felder who developed learning styles based on much of research and theoretical literature.

I have tried a questionnaire on learning style of myself and everyhing else seems just normal but it appears to be strong in visuals. It's good that I have at least one thing outstanding than others!
